Class of 1950 Goes Platinum!
There was no way anyone could have anticipated or have been prepared for what we have experienced this year as a private Christian school - all due to the Covid 19 pandemic.
In March, we had to quickly change course in the way we finished out the school year. Students were sent home, classes moved to cyberspace, and the normally buzzing campus became eerily silent. Our new fibre optic network kicked into high gear behind the scenes connecting students, teachers, and staff all over the world.
Graduation ceremonies, July Summer Camps, and the August Credit Program had to either be postponed or cancelled. Special events had to be called off - the Alumni Spring Banquet made it onto that list of cuts.
Losing the opportunity to celebrate one very significant milestone together with alumni was especially disappointing. Prior to the Covid outbreak, plans were being made with members of the Class of 1950 to commemorate a very special celebration—the Class’s 70th anniversary since graduating from NCC!
In anticipation of this reunion, we were checking out flights and hotel room rates, compiling lists of extended family members to invite, planning menus, and everything else that would make this a memorable occasion. Then the pandemic hit.
Yet this is what is so great about the Class of ‘50...they still got the party started! Undaunted that the reunion couldn’t take place when Covid 19 hit, class members forged ahead with a special project they had been working on since last year. Their goal was to build their Class of 1950 Endowment Fund to $50,000, with an aim to reach that target by the time their platinum anniversary rolled around in June. And they hit the mark!
The mission and ministry of Niagara Christian Collegiate continues to move forward thanks to the Class of 1950 and the generosity of so many of you who continue to support the school. To the Class of 1950, we wish you a very Happy 70th graduation anniversary! We look forward to celebrating this wonderful—albeit belated—event with you once the world opens its doors. We also wish Ron Lofthouse a very Happy 90th birthday this year!
