Welcome NCC Alumni

Brian Lofthouse '76

Hi, my name is Brian Lofthouse, class of 1976 at Niagara Christian College. I am a proud alumnus of a high school that impacted my life through friendships established during those important years of my life.
Just recently (April 5, 2024) a group of us who graduated in my class--yes, 48 years ago, 1976--began to reconnect via Whats App. Kristine and Dave started the ball rolling and now we have 20+ from our class reconnecting at various times along with some who joined us for grade 13. What a delight to share ‘grandchildren’ pictures, relive history through story telling antics which happened on dorm. A reminder that we are getting into the ‘fourth quarter’ of life and we lament some who have passed away so very young. Photos of sports teams, music groups, teachers and faculty shared with delight. I realized very quickly that those memories made many years ago impacted my life in a profound way. Four of my classmates back in the late 70’s at NCC share brief words of appreciation.

Ducia Procenko - Hamm (Gordon) who live in Savannah, Ohio, shared this: “Unlike most NCC students, I knew no one - no sibling or cousin or friend from church. I was a true outsider, an only child and to top things off an American. So here I am sharing a room for the first time in my life in a dorm full of strangers. School is now 24/7...scary, intimidating, exciting, lonely... All too quickly NCC became a family...a school full of sisters and brothers I had always dreamed of, teachers that poured into me knowledge, encouragement and confidence. We ate together, studied together, shared laughter and tears together and best of all worshiped the Lord together...we are family!”

Miriam Carnes who lives in Stoney Creek shared: “The year I attended NCC for Grade 13 was my favourite year of school! I loved the community of dorm life and the small classes, taught by caring teachers, prepared me for university. I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to attend NCC and for the lifelong friends that I made.”

Craig Sider (Laura Day) who lives in Pennsylvania, shared: “NCC shaped my life in incredible ways. My high school years were great: friends, teachers, sports, coaches…all shaped my life. Those years were so impactful I went back to NCC both as staff and a teacher. And then returned later as a board of trustees member. Today, some of my best friends are from my high school years. Thank you, NCC.” Craig recently published his first book entitled Beyond Your Box – Break Free to Pursue Your Dream.

Dave Sherk (Janice Regan) who lives in Fort Erie, Ontario shared: “I really appreciated the faith-based environment that the school represented.  I could appreciate it then, but as years flew by, I realized how much more I really needed that in today’s life 48 years later.  I consider it a privilege that I was able to attend from 73-77, and would advise anyone reading this to carefully consider sending your child to this institution, you won’t regret it.”

As an alumnus of NCC I am a firm believer that we need to connect and reconnect with individuals who helped shape our lives--classmates, faculty, staff, teachers, coaches, dorm deans. Take time to reconnect my friends and share your narrative with each other. This upcoming year I hope you will take my challenge through social media, a phone call, an letter sent by ‘snail mail’ or plan a party on the campus of NCC (the staff would love to host and celebrate with you and your friends). Take time to stop by the campus and take a picture out at the sign in front of Belmont Hall and enter it into a draw at the school. Check out the NCC website as well for ‘yearbook’ files that go back as early as 1940!

We celebrate moments in our lives which were  ‘pivotal’ in shaping your world today. By the way, Jeanette Moreau is giving great leadership to a group of alumni who are beginning to plan some special events and socials this coming year. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please connect with the school and information will be redirected.

Blessings to each of you as you re-establish friendships of days gone by.
