Inside-Out

Anson Wong, NCC Student
Hi, my name is Anson! As many of you may know, I’m a gym enthusiast, aka gym rat.
Although I haven’t made any evident progress that can convince everyone that I’m working hard in the gym, I will try my best to achieve the ideal physique by the end of the school year! I started my workout journey a year before, which was February of 2023. I was inspired by my friends. When I saw their physique and the dedication that they put into the gym, I was fascinated by the vibe and the ardour they have. Generally speaking, weightlifting, or weight training is well known for promoting bodily health. Regularly doing weight training can have several benefits like promoting metabolism, enhancing muscle strength and building an aesthetic body physique according to your goal. The reason I started to workout and do weight training is because I want to be aesthetically shaped, and the most interesting thing about weight training and bodybuilding is that it really relies on the effort you put in and it’s all about the process. I experienced a significant physical change in my body, I somehow get much more muscular than before and I do enjoy the results and want to become greater! Furthermore, I am very grateful for the privilege and opportunity to workout in the gym, also helping with the cleaning work in the gym. I never take any of this for granted, I am blessed that God has brought me to NCC and I meet amazing guys in the gym as well!

Working out usually takes me one or one and a half hours to finish. So it is crucial for me to make time for it, as I wouldn’t want it to disrupt my academic results. Thus time management is a skill that I’ve learnt. I would say that managing my workout program and maintaining the consistency of my studies is challenging, because working out is often tiring. So another skill I’ve learnt is determination, and I would say that the determination and courage I held are from God. Because I, as a human being, am weak, but when I rely on God and have him to direct my life, I can do all things.

The determination I gained within the gym can be also applied to my studies. Concentration and devotion are the two main elements to push myself to success. Concentration allows me to stay focused, and devotion is all about the effort to push myself to the limit. Therefore working out regularly benefited my studies by creating the mentality of striving for the best, and I knew that every single detail must be done in the best way to contribute to the final results. Frankly speaking, balancing academics and working out for the best outcome can be stressful, especially because I am having a high standard for myself to achieve. However, I always consider those pressures as motivations. Like a small single spark; when you put more firewood on it, it won’t go out. Instead, it burns more greatly! As my role-model, Chris Bumstead, has said, “Pressure is a privilege”. Enjoying the process is what matters. Most importantly, I have God to look up to, he’s always there for me and I just leave the rest to him.
