Our Dorm Family

Ms. Chantelle Collins, Girls Dorm Lead
A new school year brings a fresh start to dormitory programming as we welcome both returning and new students to our NCC family.
This year we have made a few changes to our programming that have been enjoyable additions to our student campus life experience. Once a month we have a family trip where all of our boarding students are taken off campus where social relationship building is encouraged and fun can be had by all. We started off the year with mini-putting and in October all of our students had a chance to test their driving skills on a go-kart track. Student feedback has been positive and we look forward to continuing to share these special experiences with our students.

Another programming addition has been cooking or baking with Miss Chantelle once a month. Students have been invited into the cafeteria on a Saturday evening to learn a new recipe or skills that will be transferable in their future. So far we have been able to enjoy lemon brownies or banana muffins, and over the Thanksgiving weekend we made cranberry brie bites! Also on a monthly basis, students are able to attend a shopping trip to a mall, where students have been encouraged to start preparing for colder weather garments and winter related items. Regularly our students have weekly opportunities to do some grocery shopping at Walmart/No Frills or Sobeys. Both trips also allow students an opportunity to pick up a treat at various fast food restaurants in the area. All of these new opportunities have assisted us in encouraging our students to pursue growth in community or as individuals, and it has been a blessing to prepare the experiences for them.

Each week, students are supervised in Study Hall, where extra supervision and assistance is provided to support academic expectations. On Thursdays, our students are provided a spiritual opportunity in partnership with Lifehouse church on campus, to join The City. This is a youth program for all NCC and Fort Erie teens providing a space of worship, learning, games, and snacks. Outside of our regular programming we have had a campfire with s’mores and hot dogs, gone swimming at the community center, tried some pumpkin carving, spent time on our newly renovated gym floor with sporting activities and regularly enjoy our WRec space full of social activity options. Our year has just begun and we have a lot more to look forward to together. We pray that our boarding students have a holistic experience that brings both joy and growth into their lives and memories to last a lifetime.

God Bless, and thank you for trusting us with your precious children!
